Furniture Industry Sustainability Programme |
||
![]() FISP was developed by the Furniture Industry Environment Committee, an organisation comprised of a range of furniture trade bodies. The aim of FISP is to provide encouragement, verification and external recognition to furniture manufacturers which make progress on the three areas of sustainability: environment, social and economic performance. Companies can become certified to FISP when they can demonstrate to a third party auditor that they meet the standards required by these commitments. Morgan Contract Furniture Ltd became the first member to be certified by BFM Ltd in 2007. Companies will only be expected to be fully compliant with a selection of the commitments and apart from two ‘core commitments’, companies can decide where their efforts may be best placed as long as they meet the criteria of at least another seven areas. For many companies which have been pro-active in the past with regard to Environment and Health and Safety management attaining the desired level to complete an audit successfully will not be too onerous.
