Wood waste reclamation and reuse project |
||
|
BFM has completed a short research contract with the Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP) to assess the extent of current activity and prevailing market conditions within the wood waste reclamation and reuse sector, with the aim of identifying options to grow the sector overall. Specific sectors are concentrated upon such as end-of-life (EOL) furniture, packaging, refurbishment, construction and demolition - with the latter three being completed by a sub-contractor. The project sought to: ¨ Quantify the degree of EOL recovery and material which is not landfilled ¨ Evaluate the current EOL recovery initiatives in the UK and overseas ¨ Propose ways in which the amount of EOL material could be included ¨ The refurbishment segment of the project will concentrate upon areas such as EOL kitchens Therefore, the project represents an important start in the process of preparing the furniture sector for the spread of Producer Responsibility from packaging to the furniture product itself. It is hoped that the project will lead to opportunities to evaluate issues such as: ¨ The design of furniture for EOL recovery ¨ The potential for furniture companies to engage in the commercial refurbishment of their products Download report (1.3 MB) |
